Use this chart to sanity-check common straight tube forms before buying bagged concrete or discussing cubic yards with a ready-mix supplier.

Source note: counts assume a straight round tube, 10% waste, and approximate bag yields. Confirm inside diameter, fill depth, footing design and bag yield before checkout.

Estimate assumptions

Method and assumptions

The chart treats each tube as a full concrete cylinder: pi times radius squared times depth. It does not include bell footings, flared bases, pads, or post displacement.

Bag counts use 60 lb = 0.45 cu ft and 80 lb = 0.60 cu ft. A 10% waste factor is added before each bag count is rounded up.

Before you pour

Confirm the tube's inside diameter, actual fill depth, footing design, frost depth and local code requirements before ordering material.

For deck footings, structural piers, inspection-sensitive work or large-diameter forms, verify the estimate with the plans, supplier, contractor or engineer.

FAQ

How many bags for a 12 inch Sonotube?

A 12 in diameter by 48 in deep tube rounds to 6 bags of 80 lb concrete with 10% waste.

Does the chart include a flared base?

No. It estimates the straight tube only. Estimate bell footings, flared bases or pads separately.

Can I embed this chart?

Yes. Use the embed code on this page and keep the source link to Pour Calculator.
